About Us

The DEF is a private, not-for-profit organization founded in 1989 after Proposition 2½ budget cutbacks forced the Duxbury school system to cancel many fine arts and enrichment programs. The DEF receives, administers, and disburses funds for educational, scientific and charitable purposes to be used to develop, support and assist programs which benefit Duxbury's students and teachers. Our mission is to fund innovative, educational programs for Duxbury's school community.

Managed by a volunteer board, the DEF Trustees meet regularly to organize fundraising activities and consider grant applications. Teachers, staff and students in the Duxbury schools may apply for a grant.

Funds are made available for DEF grants through generous sponsorships and donations. In addition, the DEF coordinates the annual Answer the Call appeal and organizes community fundraising events such as the 4th of July Road Race and the Polar Plunge.
